Your Next Chapter: Step 3 — Discovering What's Next

STEP 3 of a 5 STEP weekly transition series from LLECoach.com
So far in this series, we've named the feeling of being stuck, and we've started reconnecting with who you are underneath the roles and routines. If you've done that work — even messily, even in small pieces — you've built something important: a little more clarity about yourself.
Now comes the fun part. Step 3: Discovering What's Next
Why This Isn't About Having It All Figured Out
Here's some good news: this step is not about picking your entire future in one sitting. That pressure is exactly what keeps people stuck in place — the belief that the next move has to be the right move, the big move, the forever move.
It doesn't. Discovery is a process, not a decision. It's less "what should I do with the rest of my life" and more "what's one thing I'm curious enough to try?"
Your Step 3 Action Plan
This week, let curiosity lead instead of certainty:
1. Make a "curiosity list," not a decision list. Write down anything that sparks even a flicker of interest — a class, a career shift, a hobby, a conversation you've been avoiding. No idea is too small or too impractical yet. This is a list of possibilities, not commitments.
2. Ask "what would I try if I couldn't get it wrong?" Fear of failure edits our ideas before we even write them down. Take the pressure off for a moment and see what shows up.
3. Talk to someone doing the thing. If something on your curiosity list involves a person already living it — a new career, a relocation, a business — reach out. A 20-minute conversation can tell you more than months of wondering.
4. Run a small experiment. Pick one item from your list and take a low-stakes step this week: a free class, a trial project, one honest conversation. You're testing the water, not diving in.
5. Pay attention to energy, not just logic. Notice which options make you feel lighter and more alive when you think about them, and which ones feel heavy even if they "make sense." That contrast is data.
Discovery Rewards Movement, Not Perfection
You don't need the perfect plan before you take the next step — you need the next step to find the plan. Trust the process, and trust that only you will know it's right when you feel it.
Coming next in the series: Step 4 — Building Confidence, where we talk about why confidence follows action instead of the other way around, and how to build real momentum. Check back next week.
