STEP 4 of a 5 STEP weekly transition series from LLECoach.com

We've covered a lot of ground in this series: naming the stuck feeling, reconnecting with who you are, and getting curious about what's next. If you've been doing the work, you've probably noticed something interesting — you don't feel fully "ready" yet. And here's the truth most people never hear: you're not supposed to.

That brings us to Step 4: Building Confidence

The Myth of "Feeling Ready"

We tend to think confidence comes first — that once we feel sure enough, brave enough, or prepared enough, we'll finally act. But it almost always works the other way around. Confidence isn't the starting line. It's built along the way, one small action at a time.

Think about anything you're confident in today — driving, your job, a skill you've mastered. You weren't confident before you started. You became confident by doing it, badly at first, then a little better, then well.

Your next chapter works the same way.

Your Step 4 Action Plan

This week, focus on proof, not perfection:

1. Shrink the step until it feels doable. If your next move feels overwhelming, it's too big. Break it down until it's small enough that you'd feel silly not doing it. Small steps still count.

2. Keep a "proof list." Start writing down every small action you take toward your next chapter, no matter how minor. Confidence grows from evidence — give yourself the evidence to look back on.

3. Reframe "failure" as information. If something doesn't go as planned, it's not proof you were wrong to try — it's information you didn't have before. Adjust and keep going.

4. Borrow confidence when you don't have your own. Surround yourself, even briefly, with people who believe in what you're building — a friend, a mentor, a coach. Confidence is contagious before it's earned.

5. Celebrate the step, not just the outcome. Acknowledge yourself for showing up and trying, separate from whether it "worked." That's what builds the courage to try the next thing.

Momentum Is the Whole Point

You don't need to feel 100% ready to keep going. You need one small win, and then another. That's not a lesser form of confidence — that's exactly how real confidence is built.

Coming next in the series: Step 5 — Taking Action, the final step, where your next chapter stops being an idea and becomes your everyday life. Check back next week.
